Bruce Vilanch (Edna Turnblad) just completed a year of ironing in the national tour of Hairspray. In his other life, Bruce is one of the most sought-after comedy writers working today, having written for the most popular entertainers in the world and virtually every awards show, including the “Quadruple Crown” of awards shows- The Oscars, The Emmys, The Tonys, and The Grammys- co-writing 15 Academy Awards telecasts and winning six Emmy Awards. Recently seen gracing the cover of his book, Bruce! My Adventures in the Skin Trade Other Essays, and in his documentary, Get Bruce!, he is also known for his four seasons on “Hollywood Squares,” and for his one- man show, which he continues to perform when bearded. Bruce has also appeared in “It Nearly Wasn’t Christmas,” “The Morning After,” “Bosom Buddies,” “Ice Pirates,” and “Call Me Claus.” Bruce devotes endless hours working with such charitable organizations as the Anti Defamation League, National Foundation for Jewish Culture, and AIDS organizations, including AIDS project Los Angles, Project Angel Food, AIDS Healthcare Foundation, Project Inform, and countless others as part of his personal contribution to surviving what he terms “the plague.”
